The xfilm festival was an initiative of Rene Beekman and Krassimir Terziev.

At the time, it was described as “dedicated to the promotion and distribution of experimental audiovisual and cinematographic production: experimental film & video, new media and live cinema. It is designed as a platform for presentation and discussion of forward-looking positions, models and scenarios - a creative hub for media, culture and society” (original website on archive.org)

The programme

The programme of the festival included, among others, an exhibition of the Soft Cinema installation and a lecture by Lev Manovich, live performances by Miko Mikona, Radbaud Mens, Remko Schuurbiers, Frank Bretschneider, TelcoSystems, Bas van Koolwijk, and Kreutzerkompani, and a series of screenings of experimental cinema, most of which were shown for the first time in Bulgaria.
